Indian travelers may soon enjoy visa-free access to Russia, with this arrangement potentially launching by spring 2025. Discussions between Russia and India in June focused on a bilateral agreement for visa-free group tourist exchanges. Currently, Russia offers similar programs to citizens of China and Iran, which have proven successful since their launch in August 2023.
E-Visa Option for Indian Tourists Since August 1, 2023, Indian travelers can also apply for a Unified E-Visa (UEV). This single-entry permit allows visits for personal, business, or tourism purposes, as well as participation in cultural, political, or sports events. Processing typically takes about four days, and the e-visa is part of Russia’s effort to attract more Indian tourists.
How to Apply for UEV Applications can be submitted through the Consular Division of the Russian Embassy or nearby Consulates via their online portal. Applicants must ensure their personal details match those in the registration system to avoid rejection. Only one application is accepted per reserved appointment slot.
India: A Key Market for Russian Tourism In the first half of 2024, Moscow welcomed 28,500 Indian visitors, a 1.5-fold increase from the previous year, with most traveling for business. Indian passport holders already have visa-free access to 62 countries, and the proposed arrangement with Russia will further boost connectivity and tourism.
Prepare to explore Russia’s rich cultural and historical heritage without the hassle of a visa!
